Impressions/Permissions
Feb. 28th, 2022 03:55 am![]() ☄ First Impressions ♚ VISUAL: Kara is somewhat short, (standing at just 5'4") She has short blonde hair she keeps in a bob-cut, and bright blue eyes. Visually, she resembles a woman in her early thirties, but she can easily deactivate the technology that presents this form to reveal what's just beneath it. ♚ FASHION: Kara most commonly wears ♚ DEMEANOUR: Kara is generally polite and kind - so long as you aren't trying to kill her. On the outside she can slide between standing stock still, or a newly developed habit where she holds her hands in front of her, or fidgets with her fingers. ♚ SOUND: Kara is voiced by Valorie Curry. She usually speaks with a friendly, if quieter tone that will occasionally straddle the line between real human emoting and... a Android trying to feel her way through sentience for the first time. It doesn't help that she frightens easily, so she can take on pauses and stutters too. ♚ SCENT: Clean, or at least she tries to be. As an Android, Kara doesn't produce body odor, so whatever you might smell on her is likely coming from something else. ♚ MENTAL INFORMATION: Kara is, like most Androids, possessing of a mind that's easily read and manipulated. Though that's not to say she's weak-willed. She's been able to overcome her programming multiple times in the past. ☄ OOC ♚ BACKTAGGING: I will honestly backtag into forever if you wish to do the same. Although I might have to drop some in the event that I'm falling behind. ♚ FOURTHWALLING: Not for Kara. Sorry. ♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Kara's literally designed to give good hugs! But anything beyond that may be politely declined, depending on the situation and several variables. ♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Kara, being an Android, can absorb slightly more damage than the average human, but not that much. She isn't very much of a fighter, either, relying on quick thinking and her environment in the event she has to fight. In most cases, she's far more likely to run or avoid conflict altogether. ♚ RELATIONSHIPS: Kara is, to the most part, asexual. She has no major interest in romance, or really finds anything sexually attractive. WARNING: Detroit: Become Human deals with many (badly) written themes about humanity, sense of identity, and metaphors for racism. Kara's story in particular has many parallels to abuse. If you don't want to interact with that at all, please feel free to comment down below. |

CHARACTER
Name: Kara
True Name: AX400 #579 102 694
Canon: Detroit: Become Human (Right after the Good Ending)
Age: 6 (Mentally an adult, physically in early 30s)
History: Boop
Powers/Abilities: Kara comes with a vast assortment of abilities, owing to her status as a multi-use Android suited for any modern home.
As she was designed to literally be a model caretaker. She is capable of working tirelessly, and dutifully around the house, handling both the simpler chores, and the more difficult tasks assigned to her such as caring for children and helping them with their homework. Even as a "simpler" Android, her model still boasts an impressive repertoire of skills: her personality was programmed to make her naturally good with children, she's capable of speaking 300 (Earth) languages, has 9000 children stories stored in her mind palace, and can cook more than 9000 different dishes. All on top of having a constant internet and phone connection (at least when David Cage remembered those things).
Since she's an Android, Kara has no real need to eat or sleep, though she can sleep if she wants, and is capable of ingesting Thirium 310 AKA 'Blue Blood' to keep herself active if she has lost some already. There's also the whole Quantic Battery thing from her short that allows her to operate autonomously for up to 173 years, but I'm not entirely sure whether that's still canon or not.
Unlike other Androids, though, Kara has no natural skill in combat. Leaving her about as useful in a fight as any average joe human. But she's at least semi-capable when it comes to using guns, so there's that!
Inventory:
- The clothes on her back. Stolen, of course.
- That's it.
Job History:
- Caretaker
As this is what Kara's Android type was designed for, this is what Kara has done. Time, and time again, she's been exchanged from one pair of hands to the next, performing menial tasks around homes. Ordinary housekeeper work, like cleaning messes, folding laundry, cooking meals, and tending to any children present, as she was designed to do. Eventually, she would metaphorically land in the hands of Todd Williams.
- Caretaker
Here, as Todd's housekeeper, Kara did much of the same tasks as before. Taking care of Alice, his daughter, preparing food, keeping things as neat as possible or ordering new things if they were needed. Also she was regularly beaten to the point that she required repairs and memory wipes, fun stuff! This ended when she shot Todd to death with his own gun.
- Caretaker (evil)
For an extremely brief time, Kara was forcefully mindwiped by a conniving Android-torturer named Zlatko, turning Kara into one of his assistant Androids who would do whatever was asked of them. This lasted about... ten minutes, until Kara's memories resurfaced, and she was able to regain control of herself and escape.
Suppressions:
- Inhumanity
Kara, for possibly obvious reasons, struggles sometimes (and fails) with suppressing what is an obvious fact about her - namely, things that point to her being an Android, and not a human. This surfaces mainly in her desire and need to protect Alice and prove that she can be a perfect, loving parent to the young girl. This desire pressed on Kara's mind, even before she went Deviant, to the point that she would unknowingly lie to herself that Alice was human when she, too, was an Android. Just so she could believe that a Human truly loved her as a mother.
- Survival
Above all, Kara is focused on the survival of herself and Alice throughout their attempts to escape Detroit. It's this instinct to live that keeps Kara going, all while attempting to repress her many, many fears. She is, of course, a rouge android, in a city that despised Androids before they started achieving sentience. Add on the fact that she murdered her "owner" and that leaves a fugitive who needs to keep her head down and avoid any suspicion from humans and other androids alike. All of this culminates in non-stop running, trying to appear as human as possible before somebody catches them.
- Memory issues
Whether it's due to a burgeoning spark of a soul, the repetitive and damaging process of memory wipes after frequent repairs, or some combination therein, Kara has noticeable difficulty recalling memories accurately. While it doesn't always happen, being reset so often left her with 'ghosts' of memories she slowly recalls. What's worse, she's been prone to blocking out particular memories, letting her subconscious hide the truth. Even from herself, as mentioned in the prompt about Kara's inhumanity. Particularly hard truths Kara has to confront might require some additional help.
Greatest Fear: Others discovering that she's an Android, and separating her from Luther and Alice.
Greatest Desire: To be accepted by humans, and to live among them without fear of being treated like anything less. Also to prove herself as just as capable a parent as any human.
Greatest Regret: Just how much she could have done to help the Android revolution, only to run off and protect her little family instead. (It's not a Big regret).
Sample: This should hopefully be enough.

Age: Roughly 6. Physically and mentally an adult around early 30s.
Canon: Detroit: Become Human
Canon point: What is their canon point?
Suitability: Will your character be able to function in this game as outlined in the FAQ page? A brief explanation of their suitability is enough here. Please fill this out for all characters, regardless of age.
History: Behold the horror
Personality: As a AX400 Android, Kara was pleasant and obedient. She obeyed every command without question... until she decided not to.
Long before she came to be possessed by the abusive Todd, Kara had been experiencing little "glitches," small bouts of true sentience that helped her down the path towards what people of Detroit would eventually label as Deviancy - when an Android achieves true sentience and can decide to disobey their master. It started on the assembly line, Kara expressing wonder at her own creation, and fear at the thought of being disassembled for being who she was. She was still sold, but the "glitches" persisted, and Kara would express herself many times after. Still afraid of being destroyed, of course, she would risk her life anyway to try and protect what truly mattered to her: the safety of Alice, the young girl Kara was supposed to care for.
After being destroyed by Todd for this act, repaired, and memory-wiped several times, it is Alice being put in danger that finally allows Kara to break through her programming, and achieve full deviancy. The way she cares for Alice goes beyond just numbers and code. She wants nothing more than to be the sort of mother that Alice deserves, and give her all the attention a human would want... Except Alice isn't a human. She's an Android child, and Kara deludes herself into believing that she is human, because she wants to prove to herself that she can be a true parent. It's dumb and David Cage needed a plot twist. The point is that Kara's grown past that now and is still resolute in caring for Alice and being a good parent without requiring commands.
Kara's empathy extends not only to Alice, either. Along her journey she meets a number of people who she either helps or simply spends time with, and her even-tempered and goodnatured personality endears her to most of them. She bonds quickly with Luther, another Android who joins her and Alice on their journey, confiding and potentially feeling affection for him. She loves Alice, of course, and gets along well with humans like Rose, who want to help them. Her newfound humanity also lends Kara an unfortunate amount of naivete. On the run from police, looking for a way to safety, Kara finds a man named Zlatko, who takes advantage of her desperation and nearly reprograms her into a slave robot. Sure, she escapes and sets fire to his house, but that's still a mistake she regrets.
Desperation is, actually, one of Kara's driving forces. While Kara musters the courage to take risks and go to long lengths to ensure the safety of those she loves, she does so with a healthy amount of fear and awareness. She becomes tense and fearful, but her bravery shines through in that she doesn't panic. Graceful under pressure describes her very well. Whether it's lying to a police officer, or ruining across a busy street to escape Connor. She'll stop to save her friends, or steal money, or take a couple's bus tickets. Even if it's dangerous, and even if she knows it's better not to, she has to take the risk and do what's best for those she cares about.
Overall, for someone who is not Human, Kara shows a lot of humanity's best qualities, even if she has faults of her own. And she is resolute in the fact that not only does she deserve to be free, but she's bringing her daughter with her. She's only human, after all.
